Automated Election

It had been long foreseen that the 2010 election would be the first automated election, and I guess this will be happening. From headlines of today’s news, it was declared that yesterday The Commission on Elecetion(COMELEC) had announced the winner of the bidding process as to who will supply them the machine for the election. And the winner is the Smartmatic—Total Information Management Corp.(TIM).

After all the hurdles and all the processes that the bidders had undergone, COMELEC had declared that Smartmatic won the lease contract. The total bid of the Smartmatic is PHP 7,191,484,739.48, which is along the budget that the Commission had set as PHP11,223,618,400.00.

I guess, there would be no turning back. The automated election is on the go. Turning back, might mean wasting that 7 billion. I guess, we should continue with what the Comelec is planning.

I just hope that this machines would never be used to cheat. And I hope the dirty election in the past can now be erased.

I am hoping for the best for this country.
